This bear is large by black bear standards. The hide measured six by six, and now adorns my wall.
My youngest son, Monty, a photo journalist major at Montana University, accompanied us on the trip, and was as proud of the big bear as was I.
Ralph, so named by the outfitter who killed him. He's a nine foot griz, and took a softball size chunk out of Roy's backside, and put him in the hospital, the year before Roy finally brought him down. Kat, Monty, and I hung our hats in the small lodge where Ralph was the predominate adornment. He would give you a start if you ran into him in the dark. Griz prints adorned the trails I hunted, giving a whole new definition to the term awareness...
